Messages from Conference Scholarship recipients:

Cynthia Barney, MSN, RN, CWOCN

This year I was privileged to be able to attend my first ever SERWOCN conference. I received a Scholarship and was thrilled to make the journey to Orlando. Speakers, Exhibitors and many woe Nurses met together, did brain storming, shared best practices (EBP) and just had the most wonderful time of fellowship. I was able to present my Research through my Poster presentation and share this information with my colleagues. New friendships were established and fresh avenues of thought were opened. It was a time of learning, asking questions and feeling that the all of the Planning Committee, Board members and attendees were on common ground. Even the food was amazing and we had a great variety. I was overwhelmed by the sense of collegiate networking and camaraderie that I felt throughout the entire conference. It was so exhilarating!!! I truly left with my batteries re-charged ... What an experience!!! I would enthusiastically recommend future SERWOCN conferences to ALL of my woe Nurse and Wound Care buddies ... This was three days well spent. I'm so thankful that I was blessed with the opportunity to attend this wonderful conference. Thank you all for the Wonderful SERWOCN Conference Scholarship! I am blessed!!!

Most Respectfully,
Cynthia Barney {Cindy) MSN, RN, CWOCN

Thank you for the opportunity to attend the Southeast regional wound conference this past August. I enjoyed meeting with other wound care professionals after what has been an extremely trying year and a half. The pandemic has worn me and so many other healthcare workers down and it was a much-needed break to reignite my love of wound care and learning. I appreciate all the efforts to maintain the safety and health of the conference attendees.

The presentations on skin manifestations and wound care in COVID19 patients were especially enlightening and I put much of this knowledge to use as soon as I returned to my facility. I also enjoyed meeting with the vendors and making connections with other wound, ostomy and continence nurses. I always enjoy engaging with others in my specialty and learning all the creative ideas they have discovered and different products they use to manage difficult wounds and ostomies. The creativity and ingenuity required for wound and ostomy care is part of what I love so much about it.

Thank you again for this chance to continue to grow and improve as a CWOCN, I plan to continue to attend as many conferences as I can in the future. It is always so interesting to see how other wound care programs function and hear from other perspectives in the wound care world.

Thank you, Southeast Region of the WOCN Society, for selecting me as one of the Conference Scholarship winners. Your scholarship allowed me the opportunity to attend the 2021 “See the Wonder of WOC Nursing” Conference in Orlando, Florida and gain valuable knowledge to bring back to Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center.

My favorite presentation was on skin manifestations related to the COVID-19 virus. This lecture aided me in educating my hospital’s wound care team, critical care team, and respiratory team. Throughout the conference, I was afforded the opportunity to learn about products that are available at my hospital and how these can help to care for our unique critical care population. I also learned about new technologies from exhibitors, which could aid in pressure injury prevention. These were brought back to hospital administration and the quality team for review. I left the conference feeling more confident in my skills and expertise thanks to our region’s financial assistance. Thank you again, Southeast Region of the WOCN Society, for the incredible opportunity to participate in the annual conference.

Sincerely,
Stephanie Lauren Garcia, BSN, RN, CWCN

I had a wonderful experience at this year’s Southeast Regional conference! I know it goes without saying that the past year and a half has been a challenge. Because of this, it was a joy to be able to get together with fellow WOC nurses in a face to face setting and enjoy all the benefits that our conference affords us. The venue was great, there was a nice variety of session topics, strong vendor participation and very engaging speakers. And for me, it’s always a treat to hear from Dr. Katherine Jeter. She is a true inspiration! As a scholarship recipient, I would like to say thank you for making it easier for me to attend our conference. I came away feeling refreshed and excited to return to my practice. I look forward to seeing everyone again in 2022!
